Position Summary
The Fund Accounting Manager is responsible for the day-to-day accounting, financial close, and investor reporting for assigned investment funds. This role ensures the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP, fund governing documents, and company policies. The position requires strong technical accounting expertise, a deep understanding of fund structures, and the ability to manage relationships with internal teams, investors, and external service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary contact for investor inquiries and maintain investor records, including capital accounts and supporting documentation.
- Review and interpret partnership agreements, side letters, and financing arrangements to ensure proper accounting and reporting.
- Oversee and perform monthly and quarterly close processes for fund entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with reporting timelines.
- Prepare and review fund-level financial statements and investor reporting packages, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and partnership agreements.
- Review and approve capital call and distribution notices, including investor allocations and ILPA-compliant reporting where applicable.
- Maintain and reconcile investor capital accounts, including contributions, distributions, and performance allocations.
- Prepare and review carried interest and waterfall calculations in accordance with fund agreements.
- Analyze fund performance and prepare variance analyses to support Asset Management and senior leadership.
- Monitor fund liquidity and manage cash flow, including determining funds available for distribution.
- Review valuation inputs and understand the impact of investment activity and market changes on fund NAV.
- Validate management fees, incentive fees, and intercompany transactions.
- Ensure accuracy of consolidated financial reporting across fund and related entities.
- Coordinate with external fund administrators, auditors, and tax providers to ensure timely and accurate deliverables.
- Oversee audit and tax processes, including preparation and review of PBC schedules.
- Ensure compliance with debt covenants and support fund-level financing reporting.
- Develop, maintain, and enforce fund accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Support preparation of budgets and forecasts for fund-level entities.
- Assist with investor communications, including quarterly reports, presentations, and ad hoc requests.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and reporting quality.
- Collaborate with Asset Management, Capital Markets, Tax, and other internal teams to support business objectives.
- Communicate key financial insights, risks, and issues to senior management, including the Fund Controller.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor Fund Accounting team members, including Senior Fund Accountants.
- Review work, provide training, and support professional development of direct reports.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP and investment fund accounting concepts, including capital allocations and waterfall structures.
- Experience with investor reporting and working with institutional investors.
- High attention to detail with strong organizational and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret complex fund documents and apply accounting treatment accordingly.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact across all levels.
- Proven leadership ability with experience managing and developing team members.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- 4-7+ years of fund accounting experience, preferably within private equity or real estate funds.
- Experience with external fund administrators and audit processes strongly preferred.
